St. Thomas slips to Doyle

Today, I took on an assignment with Falconsports.org a local online sports publication for the Hammond area High School St. Thomas Aquinas. During the game a 3-2 loss by St. Thomas I decided to find a new vantage point to shoot, so I took out my 400mm lens and went to the top of the soccer field stands right next to the field, the stands provided me a unique overhead look at the action and kept coaches in the third base coaches box from getting in my frame. I started the game on the field, but the coaches wandering in and out of the box blocked several of my shots, so to get the pictures I wanted from the day I sought a new location and the stands on the soccer field provided just what I was looking for in a overhead spot. Check out some of my favorite shots from today’s shoot.

The photo above was the biggest play of the game down a run with runners on first and third St. Thomas attempted a double steal but the play was thwarted by Doyle leading to a collision at home plate, the Doyle catcher held on to the ball for the out a run that would have tied the ball game.

Here is another big play during the game, a Doyle runner slides into the tag but lodges loose the ball and is called safe, the runner would score later in the inning to break a 2-2 tie.

The frame above the right field for St. Thomas chases down a fly ball, Go Falcons can be seen on the sign in the background including team signage in your photos is always popular with clients.

The photo above because it was shot from overhead has a clean background of the dirt as he slides into second base.

While shooting from my perch in the soccer stands I noticed one of the pitchers warming up and since I was only using my 400mm lens it was a very tight shot. But it worked out to be a very nice head shot of one of the pitchers.
