I have recently been swamped with covering the BP Gulf of Mexico oil spill, and when I caught a break I usually ended up with an assignment for another client, I am glad I had the evening off from the oil spill when the New Orleans Saints received their Championship Rings for their 31-17 win in Super Bowl XLIV over the Indianapolis Colts.
The event took place outside the Roosevelt Hotel in downtown New Orleans and I didn’t get all the shots I had hoped for, but I did get some very close shots of the Championship Rings produced by Tiffinay & Co.
Before I show you the pictures, here is a little info on the rings. The rings each weigh in at 56.8 grams and include an amazing 103 diamonds, the Fleur De Lis logo is raised on the face and includes 16 round diamonds, one large diamond in the center signifies the New Orleans Saints first Super Bowl victory. Another 16 diamonds eight on each side of the face of the ring symbolize the team’s 16 wins throughout the regular season and post season. Surrounding the ring another 44 diamonds symbolize Super Bowl 44.
One side of the ring is etched with Saints Colts with the score of 31-17 below the score is the XLIV logo followed by the date, location (Miami, FL) and the NFL shield logo. The opposite side is etched with the player name and number, along with the St. Louis Cathedral and Super Bowl Victory Parade with float riders and the Lombardi Trophy, etched below that is the Superdome and the position with the team. It seems like a whole lot to be on a ring, but it all comes together well as you will see in the photos below.

I did a blog similar to this last year right after landing my first Sports Illustrated cover, I had been planning to do another tearsheet blog for over a month, as I had several NFL and College football preview magazine covers, but I held off on doing the blog waiting to see if I would [...]

On Saturday August 7th 2010 I was assigned to probably my coolest assignment since I began coverage of the oil spill for my client Bloomberg. It took over a month of trying but I finally was able to schedule a seat on a helicopter through the Joint Information Center in New Orleans to go out [...]
